John is a graduate of Jenks High School and Northeastern State University with a B.A. in Finance. He is married and has two sons. He served as Chief Deputy of the Treasurer under Dennis Semler. He was also Chief Deputy for Commissioner Karen Keith.

Before he came to Tulsa County, he worked for over a decade at the Tulsa City Council where he was the Director of Constituent Services, Legislative Liaison, and Council Aide serving all nine City of Tulsa Districts. He is a former Board of Adjustment Member, City Councilor, and Vice-Mayor of Sand Springs. He also served on the Tulsa Area Metropolitan Planning Commission, was a former Chair of PatriotFest, a former board member of Oklahoma Municipal League, Sand Springs Rotary, Tulsa Levee District 12 and Route 66 Main Street.

John is a member of the Coalition of Tulsa Area Governments and has served 18-years on the Event Management Team for Oktoberfest. In addition, he is currently a board member of the Metropolitan Environmental Trust, the Lucile Page Manor Apartments, and Campaign Cabinet for the Tulsa Area United Way.

In his free time, John enjoys camping and helping with BSA Troop 507 of Sand Springs. He also helps run a cow-calf operation on a 160-acre farm in Garfield County with his dad and brother and enjoys hunting Oklahoma’s wide range of game with his family.

John officially took office for his first term on December 1, 2018. Subsequently, he was re-elected in 2022 for his second four-year term. Previously, Assessor Wright served on the preceding Assessor's Executive Staff for eight years.

While the fundamentals of property appraisal are unchanged, the job has become more technical, statistical, analytical, and complex over recent years.

 John Wright has invested in professional development, training, and has the experience required to meet these new challenges.

His background includes:

• Assessment Administration Specialist (AAS) - Conferred by the International Association of Assessing Officers in September 2018

• County Assessor Certification, OSU County Training Program - Completed Requirements for Certification October 2016

• International Association of Assessing Officers Accredited Member Status (IAM) - Achieved in 2015

• Advanced Assessor Accreditation - Awarded June 2011 by the Oklahoma Tax Commission

• Initial Assessor Accreditation - Achieved and Awarded February 2011 by the Oklahoma Tax Commission

• Member, Oklahoma House of Representatives - House District 76, 1998-2010

• Chairman, Administrative Rules Committee - Oklahoma House of Representatives, 2005-2010

• Elected by the House Majority Caucus to Serve as Caucus Chairman, 2006-2010

• Oklahoma Licensed Real Estate Broker 062681 - Currently maintained on inactive status

• Associated with The Greater Tulsa Association of Realtors, 1998-2010

Stan just concluded a multi-year term on the Executive Committee for the Republican Party of Tulsa County and is also honored to serve as a Policy Advisor to Senator Dana Prieto. May 3, Stan will be running for OKGOP Chairman at the State Convention. https://x.com/stan4oklahoma 

Stan began his career in Bartlesville, OK, serving over two decades in elected office as the Treasurer of Washington County.  During his tenure, he served two terms as the Chairman for the Washington County Republican Party, as Treasurer for the Oklahoma Republican Party, and in numerous leadership and civic positions. Stan also worked in the state legislature as a liaison for county government. Stan was the first person in state history to be elected to serve as President for two consecutive terms for the County Officers and Deputies Association of Oklahoma. Stan and his wife Jenifer, reside in Tulsa where together they are engaged in Republican Party politics and various advocacy groups. They share 5 children and 10 grandchildren.
